Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with Purpose

Employee engagement shouldn't be hard. That's why Percent Pledge offers one-hour volunteer events that require no prep.

In October, 120 employees from 60+ companies joined our Hispanic Heritage Month Community Volunteer Event.

Together, they helped digitally preserve Latinx history by archiving cultural landmarks using HistoryPin.

Why Teams Chose This Remote Volunteer Opportunity

Hispanic Heritage Month honors the history and culture of Latinx communities.

Many companies want to celebrate. But remote teams need events that are inclusive, fast, and meaningful.

This event delivered:

  • A remote volunteer opportunity for dispersed teams.
  • A fun and educational way to celebrate culture.
  • A shared experience that sparked conversation and curiosity.

Inside the Hispanic Heritage Month Event

Hosted live on Zoom, the event brought employees together across 42 cities and 3 countries.

Icebreakers and Culture to Bring Volunteers Together

We opened with fun Hispanic Heritage Month trivia. It was a quick way to break the ice.

Nonprofit Spotlight: The Latino Cultural Arts Center (LCAC)

The Latino Cultural Arts Center shared their mission to preserve and promote Latinx culture.

The Main Event: Virtual Archiving Latinx Landmarks

Volunteers used HistoryPin to digitally archive Latinx sites.

Each person posted murals, museums, or cultural events from their own communities.

We played a playlist of Latinx music while volunteers worked. Songs like "Gasolina" even sparked dancing!

Employees discovered new places from cities where their coworkers live. And they made plans to visit.

In just one hour, the group created 210 digital pins—the fastest team to hit 100 pins ever.

How This Virtual Volunteer Event Made a Positive Impact

This remote volunteer opportunity:

  • Engaged 120 employees from 60+ companies.
  • Crowdsourced the archiving of 210+ latinx landmarks to support the Latino Cultural Arts Center's HistoryPin project.
  • Brought together employee volunteers who joined virtually from 42 different locations across the United States, Canada, and the UK.

This is a great example of our virtual Community Volunteer Events. Bringing together a large, diverse group of volunteers to make an immediate impact in just one hour. And doing so in a way that celebrates different cultures, sparks joy, and builds community. We may be divided about a lot of things in today's world, but the desire to give back and help others is universal.

Volunteer Testimonials: Joy, Gratitude, and Connection

  • “Love moments like this. Great playlist to work with, Mick. A simple way to give back to our communities.” — Anujin @ Peet's Coffee
  • “I loved this activity from start to finish. We started with some Hispanic + Latine trivia which was a fun icebreaker, then we learned about contributing historical / cultural sites of significance to HistoryPin. I enjoyed seeing folks from all different companies contribute to the same project. Knowing we hit over 150 pins in an hour is awesome. It encouraged me to learn about art exhibits in my state that I wouldn't have known about otherwise. The Spotify playlist was also a nice compliment to the work, though playing ‘Gasolina’ by Daddy Yankee just encourages people to get up and dance. 😆” — Vicky @ Fandom
