Customer.io, a messaging automation platform, set out to engage as many employees as possible in workplace giving. To achieve this, they prioritized giving employees the freedom to support any nonprofit they cared about. However, they faced key challenges:

  • Difficult manual processes like spreadsheets, surveys, and matching donations made managing their program inefficient and time-consuming.
  • Increased complexity from offering employees the choice of any nonprofit added layers of administrative burden.
  • Discouraged engagement as employees also had to navigate the same manual processes, preventing the program from reaching its full potential.
Previously, each team member had a set amount to donate to five organizations. When employees asked for more choice, we shifted to allow individual preferences, but this created a heavy burden with surveys, spreadsheets, and manual work. After seeing how time-consuming this process became, I was determined to find a solution that gave employees the freedom to choose where to give without overwhelming our team.
