Breast Cancer Awareness Month Impact Report: 172 Volunteers

172 Volunteers Created Cards for People Facing Breast Cancer
Employee volunteering is one of the most powerful tools for engagement, culture, and community. But finding the right opportunities is hard. The kind that are easy to organize, scale across remote teams, and deliver real impact.
That’s why Percent Pledge created Community Volunteer Events: fully guided, one-hour experiences that bring employees together for good. No prep. No planning. Just show up and make a difference.
This October, Percent Pledge partnered with Pink Ribbon Good and Living Beyond Breast Cancer for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. 172 employees from 60 companies spent one hour creating handwritten and digital cards of support for breast cancer patients, family members, caregivers, and hospital staff. The cards go directly to the people these organizations serve.
So fun. Loved the intentionality. From the music, to the orgs, to the activity. You all killed it!

Here is a look at what happened, and what your team can take away from it.
Why Companies Showed Up for Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Breast cancer is one of the most personal causes there is. Nearly everyone in the room had a connection. A parent. A friend. A colleague. Themselves.
That is what made this event different from the start.
Before the first card was made, volunteers were already sharing their stories in the chat. A 5.5-year survivor. A six-year survivor who battled through COVID as a single mom. A woman whose mother is fighting Stage 4 today. A person who received support from Living Beyond Breast Cancer during her own treatment six years ago. And, in one of the most moving moments of any event we have hosted all year, a volunteer who shared that she had just received a breast cancer diagnosis four days earlier.
She showed up anyway.
By participating in this event, companies were able to:
- Give employees a personal, meaningful way to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
- Support two nonprofit partners doing daily, life-changing work for people affected by breast cancer.
- Deliver a remote-friendly, zero-lift experience that resonated deeply across every team and ERG.
- Create something tangible. Real cards. In real hands. For real people.

Inside the Breast Cancer Awareness Month Volunteer Event
On October 15, 2026, 172 employees from 60 companies logged onto Zoom at noon ET. They joined from 27+ US states, Washington D.C., and from Canada, Germany, Ireland, Mexico, and Costa Rica.
The event opened with a guest speaker: Karen Ladina of Pink Ribbon Good. Karen shared her personal journey with breast cancer. She came to Pink Ribbon Good first as a caregiver. Then came her own diagnosis. She spoke about caregiver fatigue, the isolation that comes after treatment ends, and the difference that community and support can make. The chat filled with hearts. Multiple volunteers said they were crying.
“Anyone else ugly crying right now — such a sad and beautiful story!”

Then came the activity. Volunteers created handwritten and digital cards of encouragement and support. Cards for patients. Cards for caregivers. Cards for family members. Cards for hospital staff. Each one a direct message from a real person to someone who needed to hear it.
Some volunteers designed digital cards in Canva and submitted them the same day. Others committed to mailing physical, handwritten cards. One volunteer said she would make hers with her daughters and mail them together. Another stamped her envelope and sent it out before the event was over.
