215 Volunteers Sent Letters of Love to LGBTQ+ Youth

Employee volunteering is one of the most powerful tools for engagement, culture, and community. But finding the right volunteer opportunities is hard. The kind that are easy to organize, scale across remote teams, and deliver real impact.

That's why Percent Pledge created Community Volunteer Events: fully guided, one-hour experiences that bring employees together for good. No prep. No planning. Just show up and make a difference.

This June, Percent Pledge partnered with Point of Pride for Pride Month. Together, they hosted a virtual volunteer event unlike any other. 215 employees from 63 companies spent one hour writing letters of support to LGBTQ+ youth facing barriers to gender-affirming care. They came from 9 countries and 4 continents.

It was fantastic! This was my second time volunteering with Percent Pledge and it's amazing how wonderful your events are. I never thought that I could do anything meaningful remotely, but your team makes it possible and for that I'm so grateful!
Jessie M, Dentsu

Here is a look at what happened, and what your team can take away from it.

Why Companies Celebrated Pride Month by Volunteering

LGBTQ+ youth face real challenges. Access to gender-affirming care and the knowledge that they are supported directly improves mental health outcomes. For many, it is life-saving.

The chat during this event said it better than any statistic could. When the host asked why gender-affirming care matters, the room responded instantly. "So they feel safe and loved." "They deserve to know they're not alone." "Saves lives." "Because it statistically decreases suicidal ideology."

215 people. Nine countries. Same answer.

By participating in this event, companies were able to:

  • Give employees a meaningful way to celebrate Pride Month at work.
  • Support a nonprofit partner doing life-changing work for LGBTQ+ youth.
  • Deliver an experience that strengthened culture, empathy, and connection across remote and distributed teams.

For HR and People leaders, virtual volunteer opportunities tied to cause holidays are hard to beat. They work for ERG programming, remote team bonding, and building a culture of purpose.

Inside the Pride Month Volunteer Event

On June 23, 2026, 215 employees from 63 companies logged onto Zoom. They joined from 78 distinct locations across 9 countries and 4 continents. Whidbey Island, Washington. Mumbai, India. Berlin, Germany. São Paulo, Brazil. London. Montevideo, Uruguay.

"We're the World Cup of pride volunteering," said Joel Pollick, CEO of Percent Pledge, in the event chat.

The format was simple and engaging:

  • Education: The event opened with a Pride history segment, including a live trivia quiz. When the host asked what moment sparked the modern Pride movement, the chat erupted with one word: Stonewall.
  • Storytelling: Point of Pride shared the mission behind their letter-writing program and what the letters mean to the young people who receive them.
  • Action: Volunteers created digital and physical cards to be sent to LGBTQ+ youth in Point of Pride's network. Some designed cards in Canva. Others committed to mailing handwritten letters. One volunteer asked if she could send as many as she wanted. The answer: as many as you like.

The event required no lift from participating companies and delivered a meaningful experience for every volunteer.

Measurable Outcomes from One Hour of Virtual Volunteering

The results speak for themselves:

  • 215 volunteers participated.
  • 63 companies represented.
  • 676 letters and cards created.
  • 9 countries: USA, Canada, UK, Germany, Brazil, Uruguay, India, Pakistan, Mexico.
  • 4 continents: North America, South America, Europe, Asia.
  • 78 distinct locations, spanning 27+ US states.
  • 96% of volunteers said they would recommend this event to a friend or colleague.

Each card becomes a direct message to trans youth who need to be reminded they are seen and not alone.

Volunteer Voices: The Real Impact

Numbers tell one side of the story. The lived experience tells another. 96% of volunteers said they would recommend this event to a friend or colleague. Here is what they said:

"I never thought that I could do anything meaningful remotely, but your team makes it possible and for that I'm so grateful!"
Jessie Merriman Dalquist, dentsu

"This was a well curated event and added a lot of value to my day. I found as I was writing cards I was self-affirming too."
Tabitha Ashura, Beckman

This was a special event. I felt like I was making a small but power impact.
Jason A, New Relic
Fantastic event! Very uplifting. I was often on the verge of (happy) tears!
Olivia C, Sitetracker
It was great! I liked that it was easy to access and with clear instructions.
Brian S, Viz
It was great - honestly I usually do not like virtual events because I think they're a little awkward, but Mick is so nice and engaging and made the event fun with music and good context about the nonprofit and people we are writing cards for!
Hannah B, ILIA Beauty
This was a well curated event and added a lot of value to my day. I found as I was writing cards I was self-affirming too.
Tabitha A, Beckman

The most powerful moment of the event did not come from a statistic. It came when the host asked why gender-affirming care matters. Hundreds of people from nine countries typed their answer at the same moment. The words were different. The meaning was the same.

These kids need to know someone loves them.

Percent Pledge hosts Community Volunteer Events every month, each tied to a Heritage Month or Cause Holiday. Celebrating Pride Month at work, or any cause month on the calendar, has never been easier.

Unlike traditional volunteer programs that require weeks of coordination, Community Volunteer Events are:

  • Ready-made: Pre-designed and fully facilitated. Zero planning from your team.
  • Virtual and scalable: Employees join from anywhere. Perfect for remote, hybrid, and globally distributed teams.
  • Built for ERGs: Ideal for Employee Resource Groups, Business Resource Groups, and Affinity Groups. A natural fit for cause holiday programming and celebrating heritage months at work.
  • Consistent: Events run every six weeks, giving employees a regular cadence of opportunities to give back.

For HR, People, and CSR leaders, this model removes the biggest barrier to employee volunteering: the time it takes to plan.
